Overcoming
Evil With Good:
How God Led Us To Create HisVictory.com
"I don't know what to do anymore. We're still
living under the same roof, but there's no love, no affection,
no intimacy in our marriage. Sometimes it's like we're
only brother and sister. Our kids see it. They see how cold and
distant we are with each other. They feel the tension. He's
even been talking divorce and says he doesn't have any feelings
for me any more. Ever since he got involved with those porn sites
on the internet, our lives have become a total disaster!"
How sad are those words. Even more tragic is the pain in the eyes
of this dear lady. We hear similar stories almost every day in our
counseling work with Christian couples going through their own dark
valleys in
their marriages.
Over the past few years it's almost epidemic, the number
of individuals chained in bondage, marriages and families being
torn apart and ruined by Satan's "web" of seduction
and lust on the internet. Recent statistics reveal the tragic pattern:
$57 billion spent each year on porn worldwide, currently there are
an estimated 4.2 million porn sites on the web, over 372 million
porn pages available, 68 million search engine requests daily for
porn (25% of total requests), 1.5 billion porn downloads per month
(35% of total internet downloads),. And is it any wonder so many
Christian men struggle with this evil when the average age of the
first internet porn exposure is 11 years old? A recent survey showed
that 53% of Promise Keepers admitted viewing pornography in the
last week, and 47% of Christian men admitted that porn on the net
was a major problem in their personal lives (Internet Filter
Review, 2005). Satan my be no good, but he is good at one thing
— his job. And his weapon of choice these days, it would seem,
is the web (interesting word, isn't it?).
One of our patients whose marriage was in shambles due to lust
and bondage to porn on the web, recently told me this in his session:
"I have overcome my addiction to porno and now my wife
can trust me again." "How did you manage to
do this?" I asked him with much amazement. "Well,
my wife got rid of my computer," he proudly replied.
He was serious! It was everything I could do to avoid laughing.
The problem wasn't his computer. The problem was his heart,
which is "…deceitful above all things, and desperately
wicked: who can know it?" (Jer. 17:9)—God's
diagnosis of man's heart. Another version says our heart is
"incurably sick." Getting rid of his computer
was about as effective as an alcoholic dumping a bottle of booze
down the drain. The number of bars and liquor stores awaiting his
return are endless.
A few weeks later this same man was fired from his job. Why? He
was caught, on camera, masturbating to porn on his work computer.
It was only then that this man, on the verge of losing everything
of value to him, was willing to get the help he needed. And the
help he received was a transformation and purification of the heart.
How was this accomplished? The computer was brought back into the
home, the wife had the only password to make it work, and together
they were guided through strategic biblical resources on the internet
(along with other resources) to overcome Satan's stronghold.
God says through Paul in Romans 12:21, "Be
not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." And
that is precisely what the Lord did, using the very internet under
the guiding eye of the Holy Spirit, to overthrow Satan's work
and set this captive free. Not only was his marriage restored, but
he grew to hate what he had once loved—pornography and lust—and
developed a real appreciation of what "the fear of the Lord"
really means. He now ministers to other men caught in this web of
destruction, leading them to the way of escape the Lord so graciously
provided to him. In her own ministry, his wife brings hope, encouragement and strength to women brokenhearted by their husband's sin.
How thrilling it was seeing our patients set free from bondage,
actually living out 2 Peter 1:4, having "escaped
the corruption that is in the world through lust..." How
grateful we were seeing God take what Satan meant for evil and using
it for His glory.
But at the same time, how frustrating it was only being able to
help those who could come to our offices, knowing that Satan had
access to thousands through the web, ruining their personal lives
and destroying Christian families around the world. A bitter-sweet
state of affairs—we were glad, but we were also mad.
Then, while meditating on Romans 12:21, the Lord
graciously gave us the vision for HisVictory.com.
In one place on the web, all the biblical resources one would need
to get the victory over self, sin and Satan. Then, after almost
three years in research, editing and preparation, HisVictory.com
was launched, to the glory of God, and to fulfill His promise: "…the
Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath
sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound"
(Isaiah 61:1).
With this "Banquet of Biblical Blessings" we could set
before the body of Christ everything they need to be able to stand
triumphant. Using godly web sites we could now reach out to thousands,
not only those we see face to face. We could also offer to pastors
and teachers and missionaries all the biblical tools they would
need to feed the flock of God entrusted to their care. To God be
the glory!
That's how HisVictory.com came
about. But as we researched the vast resources of God-pleasing web
sites, we expanded out objective beyond the more serious issues
just described. The version you now see on your screen includes
hundreds of wonderful sites to enhance and enrich your relationship
with the Lord Jesus. And the more you know Him, the more you will
trust Him; the more you trust Him, the more you will experience
His victory, and will live life more abundantly.
So, enjoy the Banquet! And as you draw near to Him, He will draw
near to you — and there is no greater blessing in all of life
then that.
